In the beginning of Pope John Paul II papacy, he firmly reaffirmed the canon law prohibiting priests to actively participate in party politics. His purpose was not to reduce Catholicismà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s political influence but to unite the church and to reinforce moral authority. After his recovery, he offered forgiveness from the gunmanà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s actions.
